I'm working on what is essentially a very large rotary union for water emulsions and oil. Pressure will be up to 800 psi and surface speed at the seal will be up to 570 ft/min (275 RPM at 7.875" diameter). Pressure and speed will frequently vary. The liquid will be filtered before passing through. There are so many sealing options and I'm having trouble determining where to focus my efforts. I'm ok with some leakage as long as I can keep my bearings clean. In similar applications I've seen throttle bushings with ~0.0015" radial clearance and drainage provisions used without any other seals. I like this idea but haven't been able to find any design resources for this technique.
Does anyone have any experience with similar sealing situations that could offer some insight?
Thank you.
