Hi All,

I've got some values for the heat of reaction for Polyethylene which are in the range of 3400 - 4300 KJ/KG of Polythylene. Can somebody knowledgable in this field confirm this values OR point me in the correct direction for finding out more.

Thanks in advance,

Timewrap.

Do you mean the specific heat of PE, or reaction heat of polymerisation?

If the former then here is what my little book says:

HDPE = 3640 J/kg K
LDPE = 3180
LLDPE= 3206

(Injection Moulder's Handbook, John Goff and Tony Whelan, 1991.)

Cheers

Harry

I meant the heat of reaction when Ethylene polymerizes to Polyethylene.

From Plastics Materials, 5th Edition, J A Brydson, 1989, page 198:

"...and {the monomer, ethylene gas} has a high heat of polymerisation (3350-4185 J/g)...."

Which is around the figures you quote.

Cheers

Harry
