Issue 1 2-1
2. Link from GT STRUDL to CADS RC Beam Designer
2.1. General Information
CADS RC Beam Designer (CADS RCBD) is a comprehensive beam design
program which generates the longitudinal design of the beams with
reinforcement bars, including the curtailment of bars.
To take full advantage of CADS RCBD, a link to the GTSTRUDL (GTS)
analysis package has been developed. This automatically takes all the
necessary information from the GTSTRUDL Data Base Exchange files (DBX
files). Information that is not part of the analysis can be entered directly in
RCBD program.
The program reads the geometric information, load information and moment
and shear force envelopes of members which are to be designed as a
continuous beam. Please refer to the CADS RCBD User Guide to understand
the full functionality of CADS RCBD.
2.2. Generating the DBX files from GT STRUDL
The data that is present in GTS can be written out as Data Base Exchange
files. The files that are required to import beams into RCBD are:
Joint Attributes file
Member Attributes file
Member Properties file
Loads acting on the members
Section Forces file.
Importing information from GTS can be by two methods.
a. The first method is importing the section results directly into RCBD
and carrying out the design based on the imported section forces.
b. The second method is by also importing the loads and section forces.
Of the load categories that are present in GTS, the user should
select the dead and imposed loads. RCBD then does the pattern
loading and can combine these with the section forces, which are
also imported from GTS.
The following is an example of GTS input commands to generate files that
are necessary for importing into RCBD using method a.
DBX FILE SPECS ASCII
