Attempting to understand a fulcrum gear operation in the application of a patent. For two different sized meshed gears in-line where is the "fulcrum point"? Where the two gears mesh? If I have a drive gear (G1) that is internal to and meshed with a larger internal toothed driven gear (G2), where is the "fulcrum point" located? If I have a third gear (G3) that is meshed with teeth external to G2, G2 has teeth both interior and exterior to the gear ring, where is the fulcrum point of this three-gear combination? With G3 as the driven gear, how do I determine the forces on G3?

I think that your explanation is inadequate. You cannot mesh two internal gears. The "Fulcrum" that you refer to is probably the 'Pitch Diameter' of the gears, that is where they mesh tooth to tooth. As for calculating forces, take each pair seperatly and solve for each ones forces, then move on to the next pair knowing one of the gears forces from the previous pair.
Send me a drawing or sketch on email if you need more help.

Edson Campos
edsoncampos@earthlink.net

I believe that your design is referring to a planetary gear system with a sun driving a double level planet which in turn drives 2 internal gears.

Our company produces Excel based design software which can be used to calculate the resulting forces in your mesh. Alternatively, our company can supply you with consulting time to work out the issue.

Web Gear Services

email: webgear@home.com

website: <A HREF=" TARGET="_new">
