My uncle (a structural engineer) sent the newspaper article attached below in 1988. Neither he nor I had heard of fragipans. Since then, have not seen any more about them. Found some basic info on the internet included this map. Anyone had experiences with fragipans?

Sorry - never heard of it before . . . even though, apparently in NE Ohio where I grew up we might have been on the alfisols boundary. I've already packed my soil science book. I have a cousin in KY who is married to a geotechnical engineer - and I will try to find out some information on it.

Trust all is well OG! Cheers

I think it is what we call "hardpan" here in the southeast.
