I need to determine the effect of adding extra fuel to the wingtips of a Convair 5800 stretch. In particular I need to now how this will affect the flutter characteristics.
I have the results of a ground vibration test (without the extended fuel tanks)so is the any software out there that will do the aerodynamic analysis?
Nigel Waterhouse
nigelw@flightcraf t.ca
<a href= Flightcraft
A licensed aircraft mechanic and a proffessional engineer, who attended university in England and graduated in 1996. You could use the component mode sysnthesis method. If there is no change in geomtry, then added mass of the fuel is possible. If you have a change in geomtry, then you use the normal modes obtained from your test and then add a model for the new structure and fluid mass. This has been illustrated in Computers and Stuctures in the 1980s. Also MSC Nastran conference papers are available. If you need specific references, I can look them up for your and transmit them later.

I have very much the same problem you have except the wing span gets larger by 20 %.I've used ZAERO from zone technology to determine the flutter and divergencies speeds .It works perfect and It's integrated with nastran .
if you need help let me know
Good luck
