I have not been able to open files from previous versions without getting the following message:
"Deleting geometry that is not referenced by any solid."
Unfortunately any loads and constraints based on the geometry also are deleted. I haven't found anything yet in Preferences that seems to help this problem.

Anyone know a fix for this?

Dear Tom,
Quite strange to happens when opening a FEMAP model. When this occur this means that your geometry for any reason is corrupted. Simply open your model using the old version and issue command "FILE > REBUILD", surely you will see the same above message. So, in my opinion, this is not a problem caused by the new version, but the problem is in your model, check integrity.

By the way, are you moving from the previous version 11.0.1 to new one 11.1 or you are moving from a very old version?.

Best regards,
Blas.

Thanks Blas:

The older files are from version 11.01 and also 10.3. Unfortunately I uninstalled the version 11.01. I usually uninstall previous versions because in the past I have had problems with cnc software just upgrading from previous versions.

There is another earlier error message with the 11.01 files "Unable to Load Solid from C:\Users\oWNER\AppData\Local\Temp\MOD9D5E.tmp\_BULK1.x_t (555)."

I just tried opening one from version 9.3 and it seemed to work. The difference is that in the earlier one the geometry file originally imported was a parasolid file. The later ones used geometry created in Solldworks and imported as a Solidworks file. I have also recently installed the latest version of Solidworks as well.

Dear Tom,
The message files "Unable to Load Solid from C:\Users\oWNER\AppData\Local\Temp\MOD9D5E.tmp\_BULK1.x_t (555)." appear because you have active the creation of references with imported geometry (see FILE > PREFERENCES > INTERFACES > FILE REFERENCE OPTIONS", then each time you open the FEMAP model looks for the source geometry to see if is updated or not and propose you to update the geometry model. I simply have these options deselected, I don`t like to receive messages each time I open a FEMAP model.

But remember, if you have a copy of the nastran input deck generated by th nastran solver, then you can recreate your model simply importing the *.dat file. Also you can import the geometry and associate the mesh with the geometry using "MODIFY > ASSOCIATIVY > AUTOMATIC".

And finally, import geometry as Parasolid *.x_t, do not use native option with SolidWorks, export the solidworks model as Parasolid and import in FEMAP, this is more reliable. Parasolid is compact, not matter you CAD model is part or assembly.

Best regards,
Blas.

By importing the Nastran input deck and running the analysis again it works fine. This allows me now to make changes to the layup of a composite part and continue experimenting. The solution is good.

Hi

I can only comment by saying that I run Femap 11.1 without problems (so far :)). I have updated models from previous version without any real issues.

Maybe I'm just lucky (so far :))
