faster PC -> to work with SolidWorks ???

Hi all!
I just want to order a faster PC (better performance) for my work with SolidWorks. What hardware parts will recommend me to use (Matrox SVGA card, or ATI; Processor type?; RAM-> DDR or RDRAM; Motherboard; HDD - IDE or SCSI etc.), or just order HP workstation?

if cost is an issue, forget about rdram and scsi. from my research, the most important feature is the video card. i high end video card specifically for cad can cost as much as a new computer. rdram does not offer substantial performance increase for the price difference between it and ddr.

I don't know if you posted it elsewhere, but there is a SolidWorks forum that my be better suited to this.

But, to answer your question, check the comp.cad.solidworks newsgroup. If you don't have a newsreader, you can find it through google group

Just do a search for some keywords like: workstation, video card, AMD, Intel, and you will find loads of information about workstation quality and cost.

I use SolidWorks on a PC with 400MHz Celeron and mainboard with graphic integrated. It works good, the speed is acceptable. Also the graphic needs a better card. I haven't experience with RDRAM, in my opinion, the more is better, (I have 256). So one of new generation PC startind with PentiumIII (900 MHhz Duron) 4xAGP car with min. 16MB memory could be enough. Regarding the HD, oyu know how much space do you need, the instalation of SolidWork needs about 500MB.
