Debating control options, controling zones independently vs. one thermostat.

I know mitsubishi (If I remember correctly) allows an interface that can control multiple mini splits. They currently have some more consumer friendly program that allows customers to use their smart phone and do multiple zones. I can not remember if you had to be a diamond installer to do their controls or if that was just for the citi multi systems.

Mitsunishi units are expensive, are there any other options? What other brands allow some good control systems?

Just gathering some data on what would be do-able

For minisplits I use Mitsubishi and i don't think they are expensive. sure, more than a Harbor Freight unit, but the Mitsubsisi units also work 24/7 depending on what product line. And replacement parts are widely available.

All the units i had designed for have an integration for BAS. you get dry contact points to make it a 2-stage heating and 3-steage cooling or similar. they basically get controlled like any other HVAc equipment and no need for proprietary Mitsubishi software.
i don't know their phone integration, and that does sound ore residential. I have the same concern i have with all the new in-car electronics. Your HVAC unit may live 25 years, but it depends on interfacing with a device that only has a useful life of 2-3 year and you just hope new products wills till support your old unit. Maybe Mitsubishi software decides not to support your old condenser in 2025? Or Mitsubishi goes bankrupt in 2030 or gets purchased and the new owner doesn't want to spend money supporting old smartphone software for products they never sold?
