Can anyone point me in the right direction please. I want to model stiff table, on which, through 4 spring elements, a small platform is mounted on whic a mass is fixed. This configuration drops 0.5 meter, after which the table lands (on a corner, but that is of secondary interest).
Assuming linear spring behaviour, how can i model this in Femap/NX NAstran.

a drop of 0.5 m takes 0.319 seconds before it this the surface, but that is about as far as i get. I have no clue how to model this correctly. One i got a model working, i am interested in retrieving reaction forces.

regards

Hello Rob,

You will have to do a dynamic analysis with the velocity from the drop as an initial condition.
I work on dynamic problems using Advanced Nonlinear modules (solutions 601 and 701, ADINA modules) because
I have contact surfaces, but I think you can solve your problem with the Nonlinear Transient Dynamic module
which I think is part of the basic package.

Saratech, the FEMAP reseller I use, has a video for public access which illustrates a drop simulation.
If you go to their Website, you should have no trouble finding the video. I think it will get you off to a good start.

Good luck with your project.
