DimXpert causes part to crash

We are on SW2009 SP4.0, using Windows XP Pro 64bit, with 8GB RAM.

This problem is very repeatable, I just wanted to check with you guys before we open up a case with our VAR. That being said, when working in a part and you click the smart dimension button, it pops up with three options in the Feature Manager. The first is 'DimXpert location dimension', which is the defualt when SW loads. The second is 'DimXpert size dimension'. The third (which is the only one we use) is 'Reference dimension'.

We never use DimXpert, and I don't really care to hear reasons why we should, or why we should not, so please keep that in mind. Once you click the option to 'Reference dimension' it remains as the default for the remainder of that session of SW. As soon as SW is restarted, the default goes back to 'DimXpert location dimension'. The problem arises in the fact that if we leave it on that first option, more times than not, SW crashes. I've scoured the options, and maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see anything with DimXpert.

If we could just set the default to 'Reference dimension' and have it always load up that way, there is no issue. It's a royal PITA to be working through an assembly, open a part, put a dimension on it, and realize when it's too late that you forgot to change the option.

Any input?

Thanks in advance

I hate the DimXpert. I'm on 09 SP4 with XP64 and can make it crash my system. Even if it did work, it can hang very hard. I've never bothered to report it. As for advice, I'm in your boat, and find it annoying that i have to make sure ref dim is selected and not dimXpert.

Things I can also do to crash are:

-right click on a decal in the feature manager.
-toggle a sketch to construction geometry with a fairly large feature tree above the sketch. This is my number one gripe in 09. Construction geometry toggle can hang the system.
