We have some old drawings and we want to "recycle" for a new project. I have drawing views captured and saved as PNG, TIFF, JPEG, and BMP formats. The images have been clean up of old leaders, balloons, and artifacts.

I want to lay the images in a new drawing and add SW custom balloons. I cannot get the image to go to the back and allow the SW objects to come to the front.

Any suggestions? The core part in this assembly is very curvy and would take some time to model.

It should.

open the image in your image viewer of choice. I use irfanview. Ctrl+c it. Then in the drawing ctrl+v the image in. Then right click on the image and select send to back. Now when you place a ballon or annotation it should be in front of the image. Not sure how this wouldn't work.

"Not sure how this wouldn't work."

I guess I'm lucky today. I've placed the image on the sheet view and used "edit sheet" to place it in the background. In both cases, the image covers any sketch that overlays it.

Cryo1 ... which version of SW are you using. I think the "Send to Back" option only came out in SW06 ... but am not sure.

Can you adjust the transparency of the image so that the leaders show through?

Make sure the view is active first, then paste the image.

SPR# 364771 in the list of fixed items for 2007 SP4.0 looks like it might be related to your problem.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm using SW2007 SP 3.1. We have found that the white in the image will disappear during printing and the notes and sketches will show through. You cannot adjust the transparency in SW. SW does not recognize the white transparency background in the PNG file. Transparency is adjustable in parts and assemblies, not drawings.

I'm not sure what the "active view" does for images in drawings but we have found that it has not effect.

We have tried this on two different computers. Even though we can get it to print correctly, it is a pain to edit.

That sounds exactly like the SPR I referenced above. If you have to do a lot of this, it might be worth the effort to try the SP4.0 EV.
