Hi all,

I was tasked with designing a height adjustable desk which must make use of a counter weight mechanism in conjunction with a friction mechanism to enable adjustment and to ensure it stays at the set height.

I have come up with a concept sketch. If possible can someone kindly guide me on how to go about conducting the relevant calculations to get the sizes of the components such the dimensions of the base plate and column or friction device to hold the desk in place.

Any input on the design and possible changes/improvements would be much appreciated.

KSad66,

What year are in? This is all statics, which you should have learned in first semester.

The only problem I see is that your counterweight will not account for stuff on top of the desk.
