When opening 4 files in related to an assembly as soon as I try to manipulate something the xtop.exe causes the CPU to go to 100%? Are there some settings I need to check?

Is it necessary to have all four files open simultaneously? How big are the files? How much memory is installed on your machine? And how much virtual memory do you have allocated? Is there a possible conflict between the locations of virtual memory and the files that are open? These are at least places to start...

I have got the same problem. I have P lll 866 MHz with 512 Mb Ram. Virtual Memory is 1000 Mb.

My computer at home gives a permanent 20% CPU usage even when no application is running. Kindly suggest.

There is no such thing as "idle time" The CPU is guessing it based on the number of context switches.

Incedentally, CPU usage and memory are not related. If you need to swap something into or out of memory, the CPU moves onto the next proccess while waiting for the disk to get done it's job. Virual memory causes no CPU usage. (The reason why it seems slow though is because you;re waiting for the hard disk, but the processes that can run are running)

1.Task manger.......u can see all you need to investigate
2.Dont use 1GB virtual mem for 512 RAM.use less.
