Condesate traps in compressed air lines?

Guys,

Do we need to provide condensate traps in the compressor ring mains when the compressed air has achieved a dew ppoint of 3C or less either thru a refrigerant dryer or a dessicant dryer?I was told by some one they are not required as there is very little moisture left in the air leaving the dryer.

Thanks for your feedback.

Your air may leave dry, but every leak and or entry point to the system has the potential to diffuse moisture back into the line. If it has very far to go, and/or your system doesn't have good tightness, you will need the traps.

Do an advanced search on this site. The topic of moisture diffusion was discussed in some detail a few years ago.

If you mean 30C is pressure dew point and if the pressure is minimum 7 kg/cm2, my experience is that you need not put traps. This corresponds to about -200C ADP. Nevertheless, the minimum possible ambient temperature should be not less than your atmospheric dew point.

Guidelines by Health and Safety Executive say to install traps for each and every uprising main. When we had been through BSC audit, I did the modification for the existing lines. I never observed any moisture being drained. Leakage became a nuisance and I replaced all the traps by manual valves.
