i am designing a problem that is laterally supported only at the ends. is 30 ft long. has a uniform live load = -6 k/ft. a uniform dead load = -2 k/ft. left is pinned, right is roller. and the live load deflection cant exceed L/360. it is a992 steel. and i have to select a W-shape. can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

You need a CHECK CODE ALL after the last PERFORM ANALYSIS to see the effect of the member selection after the analysis. You may want a STEEL TAKE OFF before the selection to compare with the after value. You may also want a second PRINT ANALYSIS RESULTS based on the selection.

You don't indiate any load combinations in your input file. D+L? Also note that the DFF command will check deflection for all load cases unless a LOAD LIST command is used to specify only the Live Load Case.
