We are getting ready to start receiving chrome plated metal parts at our facility. I would like to develop some incoming inspection for chrome parts we are going to receive. Can you list some possible defects with descriptions of some of the areas I need to inspect for? I would appreciate all feedback. Thanks for your time.

There are more from ASTM. You did not mention what type of use the chrome is for. The two above are for hard (engineering) chrome.

There are other specs for military and aerospace use too.

1. Adhesion in general, and especially on any transitions, corners, etc.

2. Pits or scabs - local surface defects

3. Thickness - minimum and uniformity

4. Surface roughness - best to measure with Rz not Ra.

Is this for decorative chrome or for hard (industrial) chrome?
