Could you expand on your "without any luck" statement? Do you have the data for the curves? Could you attach your spreadsheet to show what is happening?

It doesn't look like a difficult graph to plot.

I want to set up a generic graph on the log scale along the x axis from 0.1 to 10 & along the Y axis from 0.01 to 10. I go to insert and choose scatter graph but unable to produce a generic logorithmic graph. My goal is to save the workbook that has this graph and past my raw data into it.

When using some data I was able to change both axis to logarithmic but I wasn't able to have the horizontal axis and the vertical axis log scales differnt. I am runing excel 2010.

You adjust the scales in the same group of dialog boxes where you changed it to logarithm.

More detail would help us understand what the problem is.

There is a separate dialog box for each axis, so I don't understand why you can't set different scale limits for each axis.

You can access the dialog box either by right clicking on each axis and select format axis, or select the chart, then the Chart-Tools, Layout Tab, then Axes, Primary Horizontal or Vertical axis, More Horizontal/Vertical axis options.

Is it possible to force excell to put a gridline @ sqrt(2) also?

No, but you can certainly add such a line to your graph
