Chapter J10.2

I am looking on page 16.1-116 in the 13th ed. in equation J10.2.
I have a cantilever beam atop of a column and looking to check the web of the beam so I have a couple of ?'s concerning the N value.

1. So depending on which way the column is oriented the N value will either be T_w or d of the column correct?

2. If I were to put a cap plat atop of the column the N value could be increased I would assume by 2*cap plate thickness?

I don't think you want a connection like that without a cap plate.
