Dear All

I am looking to calculate the flow rate required to relive a tank in a fire engulfment situation,

I have the CGA S1-1.2 Pamphlet in which is the following equation is used when calculating the flow capacities of pressure relief devices for critical and supercritical fluids, to establish the temperature to be used in the calculation shall be the temperature at which is a maximum

sqrt ?/?(?h/??)p

The unfortunately the pamphlet does not quantify the specific heat input in particular the value ?h which I assume to be heat input but in what format?

Thankyou in advanced

David

First of all, I suggest you transfer this thread to the Safety Relief Valve engineering (PSV) Forum, where you will be better off in resolving this Safety Relief Valve application. The way to do this is to open a new thread there and this thread will be deleted or abandoned. This is definitely a PSV problem and not a heat transfer problem per se.

I don’t know what CGA S1-1.2 Pamphlet is, but I would refer you to the API Recommended Practices 520 and 521 for specific explanations of what constitutes a pool fire and how to relieve it safely. Try to be specific in describing your application as to fluid(s), pressures, temperatures, and conditions dealt with. Otherwise, you’re asking for a lot of generalities – which is fine for us, but may be disagreeable for you.

I’ll look for your posting at that Forum.
