Hi All,
I wonder if you can answer a question regarding supports and how Autopipe applies them.I would check this myself but do not have access to Autopipe.
Say we have a pipe that has a slope (i.e. it is not exactly horizontal) and it is supported. In Autopipe you specify a vertical restraint at the support points. Now my question is does Autopipe "adjust" tha action of the vertical support such that it is perpendicular to the pipe (i.e. not truely vertical) or does Autopipe just apply a constraint in the true vertical direction?

Sorry no.

However similar programs have two coordinate systems, a global and a local system. If you look at pipe forces, they are given in the local pipe segment coordinate system (X axis along pipe axis), whereas if you look at the reactions, they have the horizontal and vertical components of "Earth".

Thanks for the response. Problem was that I do not have the results from the file - only the input echo data. Anyway I got a response from Bentley Forum on this so thanks anyway.

If you want the support at right angles to the slope of the line use a Guide (with or without side gaps). For true vertical support use a Y Stop. You can also add a guide (with a down gap) at the same point as a Y stop to give the Y Stop side gaps.

And if the epipe is vertical, or sloped at XXdeg then what?

Guides are parallel to the pipe not matter what the slope. Y stops are only vertical.

Kevin, I understand that guides are always perpendicular or paralled to local pipe coordinates. The (my) question is now, How do guide reactions, laying on a slope relate to Autopipe's global coordinate system. Autopipe does have a global coordinate system, right? XL83,.. could you explain that relationship?

Hmm, 4 years ago I worked too with Autocad 3D-Autopipe.
When the support is not in the right direction, you can rotate it, I think.

Found out that if the constraint is designated by using a GUIDE then the direction of the restraint is governed by the slope of the pipe since it will always be perpendicular to the pipe.
 
OK, so the support engineer is left to convert that pipe-perpendicular reaction to global vertical and horizontal forces on his not-sloped beam all by himself.

Autopipe reports both global and local results. The support report is local and global. The restraints report is global. The support/shoe designer would use the supports report and the structure/foundation designer would use the restraints report.
