What is the proper safety factor that should be applied to base metal yield strength? Table J2.5 lists weld metal SF as 2.0 but refers to J4 for base metal, but I do not see it. In S&J's text they give LRFD values of 1.0 for yielding and 0.75 for rupture. This leads me to believe that ASD might be 1.5 and 2.0 however for tensile yielding ASD is normally 1.67 and 2.0. (LRFD 0.9 and 0.75.
