Geotechnical

Colleagues:
I understand that my organization is looking for a senior geotechnical engineer to work on the project here in Indonesia. Hydropower dam. Expertise would be needed in rock mechanics - rock bolting (prescription and installation overseeing), diversion tunnel construction, adit rock shear test, etc. As well, they have a lot of geotechnical issues in the mining and plant expansion areas - soft to firm clays - deep to rock; and these might be possible spin-offs, too. Currenly I am working on at least 10 non-related projects to my actual assigned hydrodam project.
I only pass this on as a possibility as I understand that they have a few potential candidates - but I do not know what the exact position is.
We live in a town having a 9-hole golf course, a lake onto which you can boat or raft, etc. Lots of expats (Aussies, Kiwis, Canucks, Yankees, etc). Must (should) like rugby !!
If you know of anyone who might be interested and would be suitable, you can let me know. Time frame is short. Overseas work typically starts at 30-35 to 45 unless one has overseas experience - but this might not be an issue here. friesh at inco point com

Also - if you have seen other geotechs on the sites that might be good for our group, please advise me so I can invite them.

BigH,

My second cousin is a mining engineer (Brennan Lang) who designed the Millenium Plug for the Britannia Mine near Squamish, BC, among other high-profile jobs, including involvement in the design and construction of the plug for the Marcopper dam failure in the Phillipines.

Unfortunately, I don't have current contact info for him, but you could try contacting him through UBC CERM3 (cerm3dir AT mining DOT ubc DOT ca) or through Len Murray at Klohn-Crippen (whom we both worked for) in the Vancouver area (murrayl AT klohn DOT com).

I don't know if he would be interested himself, but his contacts in the field would be more extensive than mine.

You might also try placing an advertisement on the infomine and mininglife websites (unless INCO has done this with no takers).

Jeff

Jeff - it is not Inco doing the searching - but my company. Doubt I want to go thorugh Klohn - aren't they now tied in with Berger? I'll do some checking of your cousin. thanks.
