Allen Bradley SLC5/04 as a Modbus Slave 1

Has anyone sucessfully integrated an Allen Bradley SLC5/04 as a modbus slave using the com ports on the processor?
I am doing a retrofit on a system and there isn't any space left in the chassis. I want to avoid adding an expansion chassis and going with the Prosoft module if I can.

I suspect that Prosoft, an official Allen Bradley 'partner', has its Modbus module because that's the way Modbus gets done on the SLC, otherwise, what's the market for the Prosoft module?

I wish you luck in finding a positive response to your query, but I'm doubtful.

You can set the serial port to user mode and using the ascii message instructions, write the modbus drive in ladder logic. The Modbus protocol is available on the web.

The newest SLC-500 firmware includes Modbus RTU Master on the serial port, but not Modbus RTU Slave. The newer MicroLogix (1100, 1200, 1400, 1500) have both.

I wouldn't try to implement a general-purpose Modbus slave using the ASCII mode; the cost in time will very likely exceed the cost of a hardware solution.
