acceleration of vehicle 1

I have an easy quesion for you folks that have stayed on top of the physics from the college years. I want to know the horsepower requirements to accelerate a vehicle to 2mph up an 8% grade and maintain the speed. We know the weight of the vehicle(~20000lbs) and can come up with the gear ratios. I guess we will initially assume no losses, but if you have an estimate for what these losses are then please let me know(hydraulic drive system not combustion or diesel engine). you forgot the main spec at your question:

Acelerate from 0 mph? to 2 mph in which time.

This is the main value to take in.

Is the slope continuous?
Is a self propelled vehicle?
Please be a little more clear.

I have been off for a while so it took a while to reply. The acceleration time is relatively slow, say 2-3 seconds. The slope is for worst case scenarios so say a continuous slope. The vehicle will be self propelled using a hydraulic drive system. Thank you and I look forward to your reply. Buzz
 
The force component parallel to the slope : Pp = P*Sin(x)

I think he is just asking for the hp, not the equations. I used those same equations to arrive at my answer of 13.3 hp. What do you get?
