On the MSC website there is a Patran and a Nastran forum. but I found here in the dedicated forum nice threads and lots of people posting. So for the same reason there is a Patran forum that is the "OLD" MSC pre/post I was thinking a Apex forum would be interesting as is the "NEW" MSC pre/post...
Hello Everybody,
I'm a user of MSC.Software Apex and I would be very happy to find some other user and share doubts, bugs. I see that there isn't a dedicated forum and i was wondering if the software isn't much used.
I believe it is a really interesting software with lots of pro, and some cons...
You can export the sketch in iges as curves. just check the settings for iges export in solidowrks, when the save as window open.
then you can import the curve in patran by reading the iges file.
Cheers
You can do an isomesh on a surface that has four edges, not on trimmed surfaces. in your case you can do isomesh on the cylindrical part but not on the two end cap.
If you want to recover the stress from the surface of the cylinder, you can mesh the surface with very very thin shell with same elastic modulus of cylinder (in a separate group) (utility skin solid elements) and merge the grid points. then you can plot the stress on the shell. This will not...
I've tried to import your Iges file, and seems that everything is correct. Patran import 5 surfaces because there are 5 surface in the file. It is a box without a face.
I've also meshed, and everything was correct, then I make an equivalence on grid points and the mesh was perfect.
I never...
I think you can use a Cbush with correct stiffness and then apply to the node a preload with the correct torque due to 60 deg of deflection. so your model will see the load applied plus the load due to the angular deflection of the spring. starting from the "0" configuration you will only see...
Why you want to use contact? if the model is as simple as the picture, you can simply model the two different materials with sharing grid points and you do not need any contact .
- 1 Usually you should apply equilibrated loads the ship. then you can use an inertia relief system to analyze your ship.
Another system is to use the 3-2-1 system: http://www.roshaz.com/images/FEA_best_and_worst_practice.pdf
you shall be very sure that your loads are equilibrated.

For a long time has been solidworks policy to charge a fee of 500 euro for a return to maintenance. Now my Var told me that from the new year the policy will change and to return to maintenance we shall pay all the month all months unmaintained.
Does anybody heard about this new policy?
I was running Nastran 2014 on a Windows server 2012 and I had some unpredictable errors. sometime was working but really slow and sometime I had some errors similar to your.
Patran, on Wn 8.1 Pro was crashing so often that was impossible to work.
I spoke with assistance and they say that I don't...
Nastran does not work on windows 8.1 as patran does not run on 8.1.
the only supported platform at moment is windows 7.
I had the same problem upgrading to version 14 and switching to a new machine. I spoke with MSC technical peoples and they told me to do not use anything else than Windows 7
As you want to use a rigid element with infinite stiffness, just make only one RBE2 with independent the first note of force application and dependent all others grid point ,included the second point of force application. As everything is rigid does not change anything making one or two RBE with...
