    Elevator Hoistway Lighting

We've just encountered the requirement for this in the 2012 International Building Code Section 3007.6.2. This requires the entire shaft to be lit to min 1 foot-candle measured on top of the car when firefighter's emergency operation is active. How is anyone achieving this these days...

Is it possible to enclosure in the same box IGNITION AND SIGNAL????

It's done all the time in commercial HVAC equipment. Was just looking inside the control box for a gas unit heater the other day. Ignition transformer & all control electronics in same metal box.

    Usefullness of Isolated Ground Circuits

Sheesh, is anyone still requiring isolated grounds? I thought this ridiculous practice had died out in recent years.

Identified Handle Ties for Circuit Breakers

I've actually asked several circuit breaker manufactures if handle ties will ensure automatic tripping of the connected poles. They all agreed...maybe. So essentially handle ties are good for multiple single phase (phase to neutral)circuits sharing a neutral but not three phase loads.

    Medium Voltage Power fuses

Unclebob, I have to agree with you. 100E will probably limit your transformer loading capacity. Here's a link to another S&C guide I use. It's a large file and you may have to extrapolate for a 5000kVA. http://www.sandc.com/edocs_pdfs/EDOC_006526.pdf

    Resistance of cable

Are you looking for the resistance from one end to the other or resistance to ground?

    Baldor Generators

350kW, diesel, standby in WP enclosure, built by Baldor, I think they use John Deere engines.

    Baldor Generators

Anyone have any experience with Baldor Generators? The local sales rep made a pitch for them a couple of years ago and we've been asked by the electrical contractor on a project if we would accept one. I know they've made fine motors for decades but haven't seen their generators installed in...

    Copper vs. Aluminum Conductors

Regarding mechanical type lugs; I've been hearing the exact opposite from the cable manufacturers. They recommend not retorquing aluminum ever. That being said, we allow aluminum as a value engineering item from contractors for larger wire sizes, but require compression lugs or compression...

How can a trace a terminated, hidden wire?

Have you considered using a cheap AM "transistor" radio as a detector and a small chattering relay (wire the coil through the NC contact to a 9V battery) as an RF generator. I've done this several times with good results. Connect the "transmitter" to the wire in question, tune the radio to an...

    One line diagrams representation

I would normally write ... 4 sets each: 3#500, 1#4/0G - 4". Pretty obvious to me and never been questioned. And no I don't write MCM or kcmil for that matter. Still think kcmil sounds like the name of a country singer.

    MCC Grounding

I agree with 7anoter4. We usually spec the ground wire to have 600V insulation not 5kV.

How much commutator/brush sparking, is 'normal' in a new motor?

My 30 year old vacuum cleaner and 25 year old drill both have universal motors and have always had a fair amount of sparking. Both still going strong. Haven't replaced the brushes yet.

    Grounding ATS for Entire Bldg

Adding a generator to serve the entire load of a building. The intent is to intercept the underground service (multiple sets of 3 hots & grounded neutral in PVC ductbank) between the utility padmount transformer and the switchboard inside the building and install an ATS oudoors. This ATS will...
