Seems that all you need is a hinged cover.
Hoffman corporation makes an aluminum HMI enclosure that has two hinged covers. The rear cover provides rear access to an HMI and the lockable front hinged cover with clear plastic, provides access to the screen. This device will completely encompass...
I contacted 3M corporation on your behalf since they are a customer. If the touch screen in question is of the capacitive type, you are in luck. If the touch screen is resistive you are out of luck.

You may be able to use a protective film available from the 3M company. This would permit the operators to continue using the touch screen and forego the cost of a hinged plastic cover and additional pushbutton interface.

Thanks for your input sed2developer.
The machines that I am involved with are large converting lines having approximately 3,000-6000 I/O points.
These could be used on several pushbuton stations along the line. Several sections of our machines employ slip rings which are very expensive.
This is...
Do any of you have experience using the AS-interface from Siemens? I have recently begun investigating the possibility of employing this system to replace conventional pushbutton switches, pilot lights, sensors and associated parallel path wiring. I Would like to konow the pros and cons as well...
I am using an Allen-Bradley PLC5 connected to wonderware via RSLINX. I am using DDE data exchange.
Each time I try to run wonderware intouch v7.0 viewer, I receive a message under rslinx DDE comms event log.
The message is as follows;
"affected item list 1035 type read invalid file type".
I am...
It sounds as though you want to complete a repetitive sequence of movements. Is This true. It is not clear from your post what exactly you are trying to do. Can you be more specific please?

Versa Pro is a very good windows based programming interface for the GE 90/30 and 90/70 family of PLCs.
Logic master is old and antiquated.

You can send the data directly to Excel, using rslinx as the server. search the help files in RSlinx. I set up this interface in about 2 minutes. It was very easy to do.
search for DDE TOPICS and automating Excel etc..

The pic brand of microcontroller is just fine for industrial use. I would also recommend an SX28 or 52 ac/dp from ubicom (formerly scenix semiconductor) Parallax offers a BASIC interpreter which can allow for both assembly and Basic instructions. The chip is extremely fast as it can execute 50...
If the speed of the fan is proprtional to the inches of water colum, you can use a tachogenerator.
A DC tachogenerator can output a 0-10VDC signal.
this signal can then be compared to a setpoint value to activate an analog in to relay output device to disconnect power.
below are links to a...
I think I would try to determine why the count value is getting lost when a manual operation is performed.
Look for code that either resets the counter or places a value in the register that the counter is using. I would start by performing a search on the counter register. Some PLCs can use as...
I learned from a Siemens rep today, that profibus-DP is safe to category 4 for communications only. It can therefore, be used to provide the run signal to the drive.
So the two contactors I have provided to remove power from the motor are sufficient.

You could also use a servo driven linear actuator (electric cylinder). The cylinder is powered by 24vdc and can of course be controlled by a PLC. A reliable and easy to program electric cylinder is one from mirai international. This cylinder does not even need a PLC for control. It can be...
