Are You An Engineer If You Don't Pass The P.E.?

I cannot open an internet site for Purdue, Texas Tech or MIT and verify that you are an engineering graduate in good standing. However, many states post a roster of all engineers licensed in that state. http://www.tbpe.state.tx.us/downloads.htm#roster John

    New to Piping

It takes time to grasp these codes. It also requires a visit to a warehouse, construction site or plant to visualize a Class 150 and a Class 1500 flange in the same pipe size. The materials and all of the other lingo also takes time. Your employer does not expect a recent graduate to know...

    Intrinsically Safe Barriers

I will pull something out of the ISA standards. For now just forget about anything over 100 mA. John

    Analog signal...mA vs. DC?

Distance is a factor with 0-5 VDC. Unless the distance is greater than a mile it is not a significant factor for 4-20 mA. John

    NG pressure relief stack

2 centavos This looks like an obsolete installation that would not be recommended today. If you are addressing PSV discharge headers or startup vents, most would route to a flare header. John

hazardous area classification for diesel oil storage tankfarm

From API RP 500 “Refer to NFPA 325 for properties of specific flammable liquids, flammable gases, and volatile solids. Flammable and combustible liquids vary in volatility and are defined in NFPA 30.” … … “Combustible (Class II and Class III) liquids, such as kerosene and diesel fuel, are...

    instrument air package

Define the volumetric flow capacity in terms of normal and maximum. Define the pressure requirements. Define the required outlet air quality in terms of clenliness, dew point, etc. Advise of nasty compounds in the air such as asphaltines, etc. Define the existing space available for the...

Need for a marine radar detector??

Check the marine catalogs. West Marine / Boat US, others sell these things. We buy cheap VHS radios for small boats, better radios for bigger boats. Bigger boats have radar. Some small boats owners buy radar detectors, especially those who do crossings, etc. John

Speed of sound in two-phase mixture?

Consult the manufacturers of doppler type ultrasonic flow sensors. The doppler meters work best with some bubbles or particles in the stream. However, I suspect that your two-phase steam application is a poor match for their data. John

    Platform design companies

GVA consult in the vessel or hull design. You may want to differentiate the topsides or processing area from the platform deck. In this context the platform deck may be supported on a floater or a fixed jacket for shallow water. A subset of these companies have deep water experience. John

    Bluetooth Transmitters (Pressure, Flow)

Some of the Wireless Key Words include Spread Spectrum, Frequency Hopping and Wireless Mesh Networking. TIA-683-C Over air mobile spread spectrum covers some of the protocol. I regard the wireless stuff as suitable for monitoring but would need lots of experience before I used wireless for...

    Large ASME Flagnes

B16.47 covers larger flanges. There are multiple patterns in larger flanges. You have to assure the same selections on the piping and valves for example to fit. John

    Bluetooth Transmitters (Pressure, Flow)

No. My recollection of Bluetooth was as a wireless connection for a room in a house. For the PC market, Wi-Fi took the market for multiple rooms, etc. Phoenix and many organizations offer wireless accessories to send a signal somewhere. John

    Bluetooth Transmitters (Pressure, Flow)

Many transmitter manufacturers are going after the wireless market for distances under a kilometer. Honeywell did a presentation at my office a few months ago. Emerson (Fisher-Rosemount) should also be in that market. John
