No book or Specs. explain you how to design crane.
Also you did not reveal what type of crane you want to design.
If you give me more detail I can help you.

Get a copy of CMAA. (Crane Manufacturers Association)
for Underruning or for Single Girder Cranes.
It contains formulas for lower flange loading.
It was developed in Germany about 20 some years ago and work
so far w/o. problem.
If in doubt ask!
Hi
I am not surprised by DEMAG answer.
I worked for DEMAG in Canada for 3 decades, designing cranes
supporting structures etc.
Without having some sketch or picture about your winch and also what you want to lift, it is very difficult to give advice.
Question! If you use only one beam why dont...
Hi
The suggested method are old and outdated.
Get a copy of CMAA Single girder crane specification.
At the beginning you find 2 types of flange stress calculation.
One for the I beam and one for the parallel flange beam.
For the calculation you need the wheel diameter, the contact point on the...

You must be new to the Crane design. Your suggestion is
approximately 40 years old. Yes ,many companies used and use channel endtrucks. Because of the limitation the trend is to use trolleys on both end. This gives a greater flexibility and load distribution. Your idea sound simple but in...
The CMAA specs. is a copy of the original FEM-DIN (European)
specification. The research was done by Mannesmann Demag
(Crane manufacturer) in Germany many years ago.
Try to get hold of DIN (German Industry Norm) or FEM specs, but you will not find to much details.
I used this formulas for which...
You are overreactin for a little 1 ton crane runway.
Call me at 905-712-2373 if you want some solid info.
Ernie
P.S. I did those things for 32 years at DEMAG. Trust me,
During my over 3 decade of crane and runway design, special beam for underrunning runway was used only if the trolley i.e. endtruck construction and wheel type required it.
For normal contoured wheel you can use std. beam there are built in clearance for the beam flange width fluctuation.
Never...
Hi
The ratio between span and overhang is irrealistic for 10 Ton capacity. Not only the local wheel load but also
the torsion on the unsupported beam will cause problem.
Local stress explained in CMAA specs. Original investigation and finalizing the formula was done in Germany
about 15 years...
I need some help for the following.
Design of circular(tubing )column baseplate.
Not only axial load but also Moment.
How to find plate size, (Diameter, thickness) bolt sizes
and stiffener calculation.
Thanks.
Hagan!
The parabolic curve is either made by heating up the
girder center and then cooling it down so it deforms, or
by cutting the web plates in a parabolic form.To my experience there is no uniform stress along the girder.

Useful lifetime of overhead travelling crane (considering
fatigue, connection, welding, etc) is 25 years.
You better take your crane out of service.
