When I exported to iges I had the same result as when I exported to dxf. I am creating the dxf directly from the V4. I will try the hpgl option as rickyt suggested. Thanks for your replies.

Is your surface model an imported one? (came from a step/iges file) If yes, you need to go Edit Defifinition->Edit->Feature Properties->and check the Join surfaces box So that the surface model is made of 1 quilt.

vanpeltnv The files are locked in the commonspace, so you either go in the commonspace and unlock(change status) them from there or if you have the files in your workspace, select the files choose change status click on the commonspace tab and unlock them from there. Jesmond
