G'day All.
I recently recommended one of my clients (running a municipal WWTP) should replace his old 1940s rock media trickling filters with an MLE bioreactor for a number of indisputable reasons. I expect to be engaged to prepare detailed designs for this upgrade in the new year some time...
Nitrification / denitrification in an activated sludge process may work.
[Ammonia to Nitrates (aerobic) to Nitrogen gas (anoxic).]
Standard configurations may be time based (intermittent eg. SBR) or continuous (MLE, A2O etc etc).
Post your wastewater details and give us a look!
Cheers.
Hi MRF
I have seen ABS, PE, DI and glass lined steel pipes used for grit slurry in STPs.
Because you want to pump grit at a reasonable velocity, the grit pumps must run intermittently at full speed. In conjunction with this, the pump duty head tends to fluctuate due to the non-homogeneous...
If this sizing figure is Average Dry Weather Flow, you are talking about a very large plant. 1000ML/day ADWF is equivalent to the load from a city of around 4 million people. Is this correct?
I strongly suggest you engage a consultant to prepare you some concept layouts for a plant this size...
The cut out float should be set a distance above the floor in accordance with the minimum pump submergence provided by the pump supplier.
The lead pump should be set above cut out to give an active volume so you don't exceed your pump starts.
The lag pump (depending on your philosophy) can be...
Hi Stephen.
It sounds like a problem you would like to design out if you can.
Can you allow the outfall to flow by gravity (bypassing the pump station) until the effluent pipe flows full and backs up into the pump chamber? This would ensure the pipe was full of effluent before the pump...
I know of at least one RO plant here in Australia that was rendered virtually useless by the presence of iron and manganese in the borewater feed.
The feedwater was delivered to a break tank upstream of the RO unit - heavily aerating it in the process - and presumably increasing the fouling...
I have worked on a couple of projects where ventilation of primary clarifiers was required.
There are a couple of low cover designs that I am aware of. One consists of an HDPE sheet with suitable supports to cover the clarifier and scraper mechanisms. The other consists of pie shaped...
I'm not sure if I fully understand the problem.
Are you saying you cannot scour the line and you need to cut into it while it is full?
If you are simply after a suitable flanged adaptor for AC pipe, try Baker or Straub. They have clamp on flanged fittings for most types of pipe.
Cheers
It doesn't sound quite right. Unless there is an error with the negative sign, this implies your pump is acting as a turbine!
It is possible the assumptions you have used in your model don't match reality. Is any part of the pipe flowing part full?
Can you give us a more detailed...
I am currently managing a project that involves the decommissioning and demolition of an old rock media trickling filter sewage treatment plant. (The flow from the plant is soon to be diverted to a shiny new BNR plant across the river. Ooops, looks like they missed the entire activated sludge...
Got it in one.
I'm with Parsons Brinckerhoff (formerly PPK). I was design team leader for the transfer systems, which includes all the major pumping stations and pipelines. Also had fairly significant input to the ocean outfall and outfall pumping station.
Illawarra was/is a great job to...
G'day All.
Allow me to throw in my ten cents worth....
I have just finished the design of a 590L/s sewage pumping station near Sydney - currently under construction. The pumps are 180kW (2 duty / 2 standby) with variable speed drives. The flow is level controlled within a range 120L/s to...
