WPQ to AWS D1.1 material type range

If I qualify a welder using a36 a P1 G1 material to AWS D1.1 how many different types (range)of materials will the welder be qualified to weld?

Check out table 4.12 (p.152 in the 2008 edition.) Base metal is not an essential variable for welder qualifications, just for WPSs.

ASME SEC X will allow a welder to weld from P1 to P11 if qualifying on P1 material, would welder be allowed to weld on P1 to P11 material if certified to AWS D1.1?

Yes, in D1.1 provided you haven't changed any of the essential variables for welder qualification, listed in table 4.12, and you have a qualified WPS for the weld, it doesn't matter which base metal(s) the welder did their performance qualification on.
 
Remember, D1.1 is intended for carbon and high strength low alloy steels. D1.1 does not concern itself other base metals included in other welding codes or standards. Whether the Engineer decides to include other base metals is of no concern to D1.1.
