I'm using ASCE 7-05 to compute wind loads on a horizontal vessel. For the force coefficent, Cf, I'm using Figure 6-21. This particular vessel is supported in an open structure with its centerline about 10 m above grade, so I'm using 10 m for "h", the height of the structure. Is this the "h" the table is referring to?
My intuition tells me the length of the vessel would make more sense but looking in my fluids book didn't convince me. What's the physics behind the force coefficient increasing as h/D increase?
