Win95 or 3x emulation in WinXP

I have a scanner (Logitech Pagescan Colour) that is only supported under Win95.

I like this scanner because it allows you to place the scanner head on a large drawing and it will scan a portion of this drawing. Its not something that I have to do often but it is handy to do when I need to do so.

Unfortunately this product is now obsolete and the software is only available for Win3x and Win95 OS’s. Apparently it uses a method of monitoring the parallel port that WinXP does not allow.

Is there a virtual machine emulator that will run inside WinXP and allow me to run a Win95 or 3x virtual machine?

Thanks

I doubt you'll find an emulator like that, because the emulator does not directly control the hardware. The path from your scanning program to the hardware looks like this, roughly.

scanning program-> win 95 api->win 95 driver->hardware call intercepted by WXP api->XP driver->hardware

In other words XP still has to know how to drive the hardware.

Options

(1) dual boot to win 95

or

(2) dual boot to Linux which will probably support it - in the interim boot onto a Knoppix CD which is a distro of Linux with quite amazing hardware detection abilities.

or (3) buy another scanner - I've seen several with that feature

Rick -

I saw a scanner on TechTV "a few weeks ago" that had that same feature - Leo La Porte was doing strange things with it. As I recall, the new scanner only costs about U.S. $250 to $300. Not "already paid for", but pretty cheap.

Have you seen it? Any comments?
