Folks-
I've been practicing GD&T per ANSI/ASME Y14.5M since 1984. In that time I have yet to stumble on a machine shop that truly knows GD&T. Of course they all SAY they know the method but when you get down to the details they show their true colors.

Can anyone recommend a machine shop (including sheet metal) that:

a) has their machinists, estimators, engineers, and inspectors certified by ASME (there are two levels of certification),

b) accepts Pro/Engineer Wildfire 2.0 CAD data along with partially-dimensioned drawings for quotes and orders, and

c) has wire or ram EDM?

TIA for your help! I hope the forum administrator does not misconstrue this as a solicition because I'm not selling anything!

Google ("ASME certified" "machine shops") maybe add -welding if you want to refine them out. Revovethe brackets ().

Also put (Machining asme certified) into thomasregister.com hit search and on the right you can narrow it down by state.

GD&T is complicated and a lot of shops will say they understand it very well. It can easliy get misinterpreted. I have never seen a shop that has your list (a,b & c) all together. Type your requirements and send with your dwgs to several shops for quote.

I have been involved in GD & T since 1988 and certified through ASME in the subject. Even today, the machine shops are still messed up on this subject and then try Tool & Die Shops that make fixtures, they are worse.

Tunalover,

I have a college buddy that works in L.A for major aerospace company (XXXXX Space & Comm). They have machine shops that take minimal dimensioned drawings in native Pro/E format. I will get the name of the shop if you're interested. I'm sure they're not cheap but they have all the modern inspection tools, CAM, and understand GD&T.
