If I would like to poke a hole into an unstressed rubber sheet with a sharp awl and have the sheet "rebound" and close the hole (as much as possible) upon removal of the awl, what are the property/properties called that I seek?
My thinking is that "elongation" and "compression set" are important but I'm not sure and want to ask suppliers good questions and know which numbers are important on data sheets. Thanks.

You want high elongation. As the awl opens the hole, the rubber in the center will stretch and then tear. The higher the elongation of the rubber, the less tearing there will be.

"self healing" rubber, but I do not know if there is a certain parameter for this property.
