Weld thickness 1

Looking for information on how to calculate the amount of weld that has to go into certain steel. I know most calculations have to cover the steel composition, load and so on. I am a welder by trade and would like to know how to figure this process.

If you had to install 6- W8by31(8"by8&quotwide flange beams 7'long to side supports of 1/2 steel, running consecutively 3'apart with a load of 50,000lbs on them. How would you calculate this? How much weld should go into welding these flanges?
