Can anyone tell me if it is possible to set up a standing wave in a free-ended wire, by attaching one end of the wire to a longitudinal vibration driver, whereby the free end of the wire terminates at an anti-node?
Also, in such a wire, when the transverse vibrations of the standing waves are created by attaching one end to a longitudinal vibrator, do the longitudinal vibrations and the transverse vibrations necessarily have their nodes and anti-nodes located at the same points?
Are there any references I can cite?
