I have an old MDL application that I am trying to update to V8. I am doing this for a customer and I do not have the documentation although I could use theirs if need be.
This app doesn't use any fancy stuff, but who knows?

Can someone point me to a document, preferably on the web, that will cover the issues concerning updating from older MDL source. The first problems I am experiencing concern dialogue box libraries. Apparently the directory structure has radically changed.

Anyway, I hope this is a reasonable place to post this question. If not, sorry for the noise.

My brothers in Engineering,

Here is a relevant e-mail message I received today (see below, after the message):

If you have already made the switch to V8 or you are planning to migrate to MicroStation V8 soon, please get in touch with us if you have old User Commands or MDLs written for MicroStation/J, SE, 95 or V5. Since MicroStation V8 no longer supports User Commands and the V8 DGN file format
is different, you will need to recompile, and in some cases, rewrite your applications.

As a free service, Atlantech is offering to provide an application assesment to tell you how much work would be required to update the applications to work with V8...and/or whether it would be more cost effective to simply re-write them. And of course, we have the expertise to do either, if you feel you'll need help.

If you have an interest, give me a call and send me your UCMs and MDLs, and we'll have our development staff take a look at them.

Dave

==================

1. I'm not the "Dave" in the message.
2. I don't think I'm violating the EngTips code on commercial advertising since I'm passing on info regarding what appears to me as a free service (sure... I KNOW Atlantech will try to get some bucks out of it...).
3. I HATE that my MDL commands will have to be rewritten, scrapped, etc.
