Undoped Corundum work for pulsed laser?

I recently picked up some Synthetic Ruby rods to build a small pulse laser for a project.

With the rods, I received several Undoped synthetic Sapphire (clear) rods.

Does anyone know if these can be used as well?

No, the dopant is the active laseing media, chromimum I believe for ruby. I don't think that pure Al2O3 will lase at any line.
