Hi, my company is looking at purchasing a new Turret punch press. I have been asked to investigate how many die clearances we will require. We use 0.7mm to 3.2mm
We have a great deal of information from tooling brochures and sales reps, but would like to hear from engineers that have experience with die clearance and the boundaries.
We know: too great clearance can cause slug pulling and too small can cause excess tool wear.
We have information lots of information like this:
Mild steel:
minimum 10% of thickness
optimum 15% of thickness
maximum 20% of thickness
But:
Is there anyone running production levels of sheet at these minimum or maximum boundaries and if so what sort of tool life are you getting.
All information would be of great value.
Regards
