hi,
Typically, when I place an xref in a drawing, I am able to use lines in the xref to trim or extend lines in the "host" drawing. e.g., I start thr trim command, and if I select a line in the xref as the "cutting" line, only that line is highlighted, and I complete the trim operation, similar to what you find using a block the same way.

Right now I'm working on a drawing I created from my standard template, but I can't trim with the lines in my x-refs.

Is there a system variable that controls this?

any help appreciated.

If you have ACAD 2000 or above then you can edit XREF drawing using REFEDIT command. To issue this command, pick the Edit block or Xref button from the Refedit toolbar, pick Edit Reference fron the In-place Xref and Block Edit cascading menu in the Modify pull-down menu or enter REFEDIT at the command prompt. Hope this helps - John

Hi,

I think sundemon is looking for a cuting edge inside a xref/block. Infos: Normaly You can highlight an object inside a xref/block (during some commands. Maybe the file is corrupt. Is this phenomen in every drawing with different xrefs/blocks?

thanks Lothar,
That's what I was wondering. Since posting I also began to suspect the file was corrupt; I started having other ACAD problems (suddenly ACAD wouldn't recognize any commands having to do with "properties"), so I had to re-install. However, the xrefs created from that session retained the traits (inability to act as a cutting or extending edge for non-xref lines) when I loaded the drawing in another machine (I shuttle between work and home).
I'll check out the link you posted.
Thanks again,
sundemon
