I have an aluminum heat sink that uses water to keep the temperature near constant at ambient. I am removing about 5-10 watts from the sink. I am using a small circulating pump and a 50 gallon reservoir as a radiator. The heat sink is connected to the reservoir through a pair of 3/16" ID lines. This pump runs 24-7. The small pump is in the reservoir and the return line is above the water lever in the reservoir so one can see water flow. It also keeps the water absorbing air to reduce anaerobic bacteria. I want to treat the water but I am afraid if I use bleach it will corrode the aluminum heat sink. I had a 25% mixture of polypropylene glycol for a similar project and it worked well, However, I cannot find it at the local big box store any more. Does any one have a good idea for a cost effective solution to treat the water? Currently the water is flowing but it is "stinky".
