Total Shear Force on a plate element in STAAD.Pro 1

I wonder if the total shear force on a plate element is the sum of SQX and SQY?
Is it correct to say that the total shear force is:
V=SQX x Plate thickness x Plate width + SQY x Plate thickness x Plate width
Appretiate if any one could help me out.

V=SQRT[ (SQX x Plate thickness x Plate width1)^2 + (SQY x Plate thickness x Plate width2)^2 ]
would be the maximum principal shear force. In general, it would be at an angle to the plate edges. There is also the inplane shear to consider in some cases.
