What a hell of a game Kenny Rogers threw against the Yankees. I just finished watching it on ESPN (we don't always get it live) - a masterful piece of pitching by a 41 year old against some of the finest hitters in baseball.

Way to go Tigers. You'll be my team against the A's.

I am pleasantly surprised at how the Tigers stomped the Yankees. I went to a Tigers game on Sept. 30, where the KC Royals scored 7 runs in the top of the first against the Tigers.

I still have this nagging doubt about their abilities, even though I have been a Tigers fan since I was a youngster.

Rogers pitched another great game against the As - game 3 to put them up 3-0! He's having a phenomenal playoffs - something like 15 innings without giving up a run! Also Koufaxian. Hope they keep it up. I'm a huge Indian fan, but have fond memories for Detroit (I like Kaline) - and, well, due to CKLW when I was a kid!
[cheers]
Well said Jim!

What another masterful performance by Kenny Rogers!! 23 playoff innings without giving up a run! Damn, but Jones almost blew it for them! This series may well go 7! Have to cheer about something - my Browns are getting the cra@ kicked out of them week in and week out! Cornell not much better, sadly.

Nothing personal BigH, but I'm hopping the Cardinals will make some serrious headway while here in St. Louis. Weather looks good for the game tonight, but cold and rain is called for starting Wed. afternoon through Thur. night. Not sure when the games would be rescheduled...

Going into the serries I thought Tigers' picting would overwhelm the Cardinals, but now I'm not so sure.

BigH:

How about the "Dirtgate" controversy? (A little geotech element to the game?) Personally, I think if he got away with it, then no big deal. The St. Louis fans seem to differ. However, since La Russa didn't complain, then he's just as much at fault.

Whatever happened, Rogers is pitching great and I am starting to gain some confidence (very scary when it comes to the Tigers).

As far as football goes, the Lions aren't doing much better than the Browns.

GeoPaveTraffic - I'm from Cleveland -and likely the reason for rooting for the Tigers is that they are AL and I grew up listing to CKLW and Motown! But, the bottom line for me is that it goes the full 7 games - I've rooted for the Cardinals before and will again but . . . Until it is really on the line, any winner in less than 7 is boring!

Eric,

I think the only ones making any issue about it are the sports casters. No one else seems to care in the least. Lets face it, he pitched a very good game throughout. His first inning stuff was no better, or worse, than the later inning stuff. LaRussa said as much in the post game interviews.

BigH,

Seven would be good, but I'd take five with St. Louis winning, :).

Wow, CKLW! Windsor and Detroit.

Big H - I grew up near Sandusky (Huron, about 5 mi. east of Cedar Point, a landmark you surely must know), so CKLW was my radio station until I got FM about 1971 and listened to WMMS in Cleveland. Rarely have I set foot in Detroit, but I still know street names and such from listening to CKLW Twenty-Twenty News all those years.

There was some great Motown music on then: the Supremes, the J Five, the Temptations...

dgillette - and CKLW was a Canadian station!! I also listened to WIXY 1260!! - never spent much time over near Sandusky - never been to Cedar Point. Grew up in Willoughby (east of Cleveland) - got to a lot of Indians baseball games with the Press' Straight A programme in the last 6 weeks of school. WMMS was the underground station - first heard of Ultimate Spinach from them! Used to hang around with Randy Klawon - brother was Danny who wrote The Choir's "It's Cold Outside". Our lead guitarist actually jammed with Danny back when he was still in early highschool. Now our guitarist is mayor of Willoughby - go figure that they would go an elect a "strummer".

I agree with GeoPaveTraffic about the "dirt". Baseball pitchers always did this (Gaylord Perry was the prime example - you don't think they "KNEW"???) - and the sportsbroadcasters need something to talk about - why else do they keep bringing up Roger's shoving of the cameraman a few years back? Bring back Herb Score - or better Dizzy Dean! or that guy from the Cubs - he was always a treat. Folks growing up in Dayton had a great thing going - the Reds (WKY(?)), the Cubs, the Indians (WKYC) and the Tigers all within nominal radio range!

Looks like GeoPaveTraffic may be right about 5! Granderson's fall was something that I cannot ever remember seeing before in baseball; I'm sure it happened and it happens a lot more to football's receivers. And the "shot put" - Tigers were begging the Cardinals to win game 4!

GeoPaveTraffic was correct! 5 it was.

Little Leaguers Tigers, making absolutely horrid plays unbecoming a professional actually BEGGED Cardinals to put them out of their misery. Until next year, on the subject - GO INDIANS!!!

While I'm very happy with the way it all turned out, I was surprised that Detroit's pitching was not better; and lets not even talk about the defense played by their pitchers!

Better luck next time, BigH.
