The process unit is a wax hydrotreater. Is it possible that a TI unit located in a pipe connected longitudinaly in line with a process temperature-controlled electric heater bathed in hydrogen-rich gas (a diathermic gas) consistently shows higher temperatures than another TI located at less than 1 m distance farther along but doesn't "see" the heating electrical elements after an elbow turn? Both TIs and the pipe heat insulation are in good working order. Could heat radiation be superimposed to convection to explain the strange behaviour ?

Other issue: is the TI measuring within a cross section or just a point in a flow after passing a heater? What if the elbow enhances some radial mixing and you get a more uniform temperature ?
Just guessing ....

ardilesd, thanks a lot. Your idea made me think about wax/hydrogen stratification inside the horizontal pipe section after the heater, so its TI actually touches mostly liquid wax. After the elbow, turbulence mixes gas and liquid, bringing down the temperature to an average. This is quite possible.

By the way, is your name connected to Osvaldo Ardiles the famous argentine football player ?

Thanks again.

Well, think we should shift to football thread...
we both are from argentina ( I am not good at football, I mean, not as good as him ) and ardiles is not a very common last name, so everyone establishes some link .
He is back in Argentina as the coach of Racing Club
Regards

If you are, then the three of us are argentine. I was born in Chaco, in a small town named Quitilipi. As I pressume we both live far away from homeland.

Thanks for your response.
