Hello

I am trying to understand the inner workings of surge arrestors. If a surge arrestor diverts current to ground once line voltage is above a certain threshold, does that mean you will get an earth potential rise at the surge arrestor output? For example, if I measured the voltage between the end of the surge arrestor and transformer STAR point (i.e. remote earth), would there be a voltage present?

Or does it somehow absorb the over voltage?

You would read a voltage equal to the current times the impedance of the path from the arrestor to the transformer neutral.

Not just a good idea;
It's the LAW!
