Hello,

I am looking for a stretch material than has linear resistance. For example, the material starts with weak resistance and then progressively increases with resistance.

I am also looking for a stretch material that can achieve over 800% elongation with good recovery.

Please let me know if anyone has any insight.

Thank you for your help!

Regards,
Kerrie

Most elastomers behave as you describe. The increasing resistance to stretch is due to molecules becoming more aligned by stretching. The "good recovery" requires that the material be cross-linked so it does not creep as much when stretched.

I would recommend a bungee cord because the braided fibers around the rubber core prevents necking, but you can only get 200-300% elongation. Natural rubber may be your best bet. You might also look at Spandex.
