Stress Ratio & Impact testing

Colleagues,

After calculating stress ratio according to ASME B31.3 (2008 edt) Fig. 323.2.2B, General note (a)(1), number is well below 0.3 (it doesn't intersect curve). What reduction in minimum design temperature can I use?

See table 323.2.2 and read all of the notes on the next page, especially note 3.

I don't think you need to use figure 323.2.2(b) for anything but the definition of what the stress ratio is.

For carbon steels, I think you impact test below -55 F (-48 C) irrespective of stress ratio.

I would, anyway.
